[Research Grand Rounds] Life Course Oral Health: Evidence From Population-Based Cohort Studies
The study of life course epidemiology is designed to help the establishment of causal relationships between exposures and outcomes, taking into consideration the duration and the time of disease development. The aim of this presentation is to provide evidence from population-based cohort studies that addresses some hot topics in dental and oral health research, such as: i) the link between sugar consumption and dental caries; ii) the influence of breastfeeding on oral health; iii) the relationship between obesity, metabolic syndrome and periodontitis; iv) the impact of General anaesthesia early in life and school performance later on; and v) the role of social mobility in the life course and oral health outcomes. Examples of possibilities of oral health studies nested in existing cohort studies in Singapore will be presented.
